Charles DeSassure, a leader in cybersecurity education, serves as dean of the business and information technology division at Rose State College. He has been successful in serving community colleges in Texas, Virginia, and Oklahoma. He has experience as a two-time dean, department chair, Achieve the Dream campus coordinator, faculty association president, and tenure professor. He is an academic leader who encourages collaboration and believes that students deserve access to and support resources to be successful in higher education. After three years of teaching in public schools in South Carolina, he worked as an information technology (IT) professional in the private sector for ten years, providing computer networking and security solutions to clients throughout the country. He has worked at the community college level for over two decades.
DeSassure holds a doctorate in computer science with a specialization in cybersecurity and information assurance from Colorado Technical University, a master’s in information and resources management from Webster University, a bachelor’s in business administration management from Claflin College (now Claflin University), and an associate in computer technology from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. The University of Massachusetts Amherst awarded him a graduate certificate in higher education leadership and administration. DeSassure completed the Harvard University Management Development Program (MDP), National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA) Leadership Development Institute, and Stanford University Advanced Computer Security Program. In addition, he is a Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP).
Being active in various professional and community organizations has led him to write the International Project SEED (Sigma Economic Empowerment Development) initiative, which is now included in the improved Business Program for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The focus of the initiative is on financial management and homeownership.
